Re: Firefox crashes

It's seems odd that your post 8 shows that the Firefox dump shows i965 is reported but the cpu is actually using a i915 as reported by 'lspci -v -s 00:02.0" or it's also visible in the...

Re: Firefox crashes

I'd definitely try turning off desktop effects, I don't use any of the effects and I'm not seeing Firefox crashes. If you look at the desktop effects setup (at least in KDE), there are tons of...

Re: Firefox crashes

Yeah, I'd suggest memtest also, I was figuring that was done already.

I bet lots of different apps would crash but you're mostly running Firefox as the big memory user, so if there's a bad memory...

Re: Firefox crashes

Okay, but the really slick way to use ProfileManager is not to select the default and rename it to test, all that did was rename the same old profile. By doing that you're just running the new tar...

Re: Firefox crashes

It's not "Profile Manager" as two words, it has to be exactly like this ( ProfileManager as one word with a single dash in front )
note the leading "dot slash" that needs to be there to force...

Re: Firefox crashes

If you haven't tried it, I'd try installing the tarball style Firefox directly from Mozilla. It's built with a different, more generic set of settings and libraries so it might avoid what ever is...

Re: fedora equivalent to rar

Look in here (note change "19" values to "20" for Fedora 20 like shown below )
http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mjm-fedora-f19.html#yum

These commands would be to add both the free and nonfree:...

Re: installing GNU make 3.81 in fedora 20

The other question is what do you mean by "asking for make 3.81". Lots of software has hard coded prompts to use a particular version of a tool. The software then sits around unchanged for a year or...

Re: Added a F20 X Server mouse .conf file, now no command line access.

The most common way to get command line access that avoids the mouse issue would be to use ssh to get in from a remote machine
on the network:
and log in just like you would with telnet. Of course...

Re: Java Apps Won't run.

No, the browser plugin was just if you needed it for something like a business web page that requires it. For the Arduino IDE you don't need it.

Re: Java Apps Won't run.

Yeah, when you just hit <enter> you got the 2nd one with the "*" which was /usr/java/latest/bin/java which you don't have. Hitting 3 <enter>
got your OpenJDK 7u65 which is a good one.

./java...

Re: Java Apps Won't run.

I assume you did hit "3" while in the --config command there?

It would also be a really good idea to remove those 1 and 2 entries as your previous posts suggest those don't exist.

"/usr/java"...

Re: Upgraded to F20 - Firefox crash-o-rama

Whoa, I just re-read your post 1 slowly. You kept the home directory, which means you kept the old ~/.mozilla folder.

So you're really running the .mozilla/firefox/*.default/* files you had on...

Re: Java Apps Won't run.

Why remove JDK8? That's the current latest official java and it gives you all the function of 7 and all the nice features of 8 (lambda functions).

Also you don't have to remove JDK's so you only...

Re: Java Apps Won't run.

Which JDK did you install?, if you installed the Fedora OpenJDK it's supposed to configurate the system path to the jdk bin directory automatically via a rpm script

Re: Dumb Btrfs Questions

btrfs supports "btrfs send" which is the efficient version of sending snapshots. Of course it's only available if the destination storage is btrfs based and it's a mirror of the source btrfs file...

Re: Upgraded to F20 - Firefox crash-o-rama

I'd run memtest86 right away and see if the RAM is bad. Is it always Firefox or does anything else crash?

Re: System on USB stick, why so sluggish?

They should have a blue stub in the port according to the standard, maybe some companies just violate the standard and use
old ports. But then they wouldn't work at USB3 speed because the USB3 ports...

Re: System on USB stick, why so sluggish?

There's no need to randomly plug into different ports, the USB3 ports should be visible as having the blue stub in the port instead of the usual black for USB 2.

Re: Memory and swap usage increases continually

running smem as your user will just show the memory used by processes you own, so that might explain the missing amount. Try running it as root, I think then "smem" will show all the usages

Re: not enough space in /tmp copying DVD using kde

/tmp in Fedora 20 is based off tmpfs, which means all the storage of files in /tmp are resident in RAM. Because of that, /tmp is defaulted to something like 50% of the ram. My Fedora 20 laptop has...
