Re: Hp laser jet 1020 printing stopped error in fedora 20

The critical thing about the HP printers like the 1020 is that the important print drivers are in an optional package. If you do a basic Fedora install the package won't be installed so
make sure...

Re: How to accomplish in F20 what was done via HAL and *.fdi files in F4?

Use a partition editor like gparted to set a label on your disks that you want to automount. When you plug in the disk, Fedora will make a mount point named after the label (it's put under...

Re: F20 - Sound Crackling -_-;

does that help at all, that's for Arch but the pulseaudio is similar in Fedora so the idea should...

Re: Formatted FAT32 34GB USB stick loses 8.5GB?

FAT32 does not have a 32GB volume size limit, I have a 64GB microSD formatted to FAT32 in my phone and it shows as 59.4GB (the loss is expected from FS overhead). I looked at that genie9.com link and...

Re: rpm will not install due to conflict

The rpm seems to contain '/' and '/usr/bin' explicitly, that's a mistake that was made when they defined the rpm. The only thing I can think of would be to extract the rpm to a temp directory, then...

Re: Do you like Delta RPMs?

I like drpms a lot, I can sit in the local cafe working on software or studying and patch my laptop without being a huge network hog on the wireless. My current home connection is slow so it's nice...

Re: Formatted FAT32 34GB USB stick loses 8.5GB?

I'd suggest using gparted, it's really a nice tool and since it uses parted, it also supports very large partitions with GPT.

Re: Fedora 21 alpha iso install problem using usb

I can't run the built-in media test because the kernel never loads, I get to "Loading initrd0.img.." and that's it and the screen goes black. The iso file checks out via the CHECKSUM file and it was...

Fedora 21 alpha iso install problem using usb

I got the Fedora-Live-KDE-x86_64-21_Alpha-1.iso and loaded it to a 16GB usb key with:

the dd works and I get to the install menu and started the install. I removed the quiet and rhgb options...

Re: cannot activate network device eth0

@rm2014:

It's not a good idea to tag onto a four year old thread, back when the original thread started, 'eth0' was the typical ethernet wired port name. In Fedora 19 and 20, the port can be...

Careful there, according to the 'man ccache' the default cache name is:
So change the script to use Note that tar going into ~/.ccache doesn't really explain the original problem, the original...

Re: software is running hidden back somewhere

In what way did the uninstall not work, was it a file permission not allowed error or that something was running and the system didn't want to uninstall something that was running?

I'd suspect...

Re: removing java 32-bit in Fedora 17 to install 64-bit

The machine may also have the Oracle 'tarball' style JDK or JRE installed, that would not show up on the rpm output.

One way to find it if you have updatedb running each day:
( note this will...

Re: Firefox crashes

It's seems odd that your post 8 shows that the Firefox dump shows i965 is reported but the cpu is actually using a i915 as reported by 'lspci -v -s 00:02.0" or it's also visible in the...

I'd definitely try turning off desktop effects, I don't use any of the effects and I'm not seeing Firefox crashes. If you look at the desktop effects setup (at least in KDE), there are tons of...

Re: Firefox crashes

Yeah, I'd suggest memtest also, I was figuring that was done already.

I bet lots of different apps would crash but you're mostly running Firefox as the big memory user, so if there's a bad memory...

Re: Firefox crashes

Okay, but the really slick way to use ProfileManager is not to select the default and rename it to test, all that did was rename the same old profile. By doing that you're just running the new tar...

It's not "Profile Manager" as two words, it has to be exactly like this ( ProfileManager as one word with a single dash in front )
note the leading "dot slash" that needs to be there to force...

Re: Firefox crashes

If you haven't tried it, I'd try installing the tarball style Firefox directly from Mozilla. It's built with a different, more generic set of settings and libraries so it might avoid what ever is...

Re: installing GNU make 3.81 in fedora 20

The other question is what do you mean by "asking for make 3.81". Lots of software has hard coded prompts to use a particular version of a tool. The software then sits around unchanged for a year or...

Re: Added a F20 X Server mouse .conf file, now no command line access.

The most common way to get command line access that avoids the mouse issue would be to use ssh to get in from a remote machine
on the network:
and log in just like you would with telnet. Of course...

Re: Java Apps Won't run.

No, the browser plugin was just if you needed it for something like a business web page that requires it. For the Arduino IDE you don't need it.

Re: Java Apps Won't run.

Yeah, when you just hit <enter> you got the 2nd one with the "*" which was /usr/java/latest/bin/java which you don't have. Hitting 3 <enter>
got your OpenJDK 7u65 which is a good one.

./java...
