Re: yum and dnf clean all

Why don't you just run

du -k --max-depth=1 /var/cache/dnf

like in post #2 or just look in /var/cache/dnf manually to see what's using the space? (this works okay: "ls...

Re: yum and dnf clean all

I've noticed that "dnf clean all" doesn't clean files related to repos that you've defined as not enabled in their respective repo files. That is the ones you have set the the 'enabled' as

Re: Want to exclude wireless at home but allow on the road

I'm currently not using any wireless at home just now. But a script would work to detect that
"enp0s25" (the wired I/F) is not showing for "ip addr show" a value of <NO-CARRIER ....
that is it's...

Re: Locking Screen in KDE Desktop

Sorry, I'm on KDE5 on Fedora 22, I didn't notice your version. It should exist in a similar place in Fedora 21's KDE

Fedora 21 KDE probably has a search tool feature in system settings like KDE5...

Re: Redundant kernel after upgrade to Fedora 21

Okay, sorry....

I've re-read your post 1 and so the question is why did it go from PAE and install the basic kernel which you didn't even have?

No idea then, I was thinking you were asking...

Re: Redundant kernel after upgrade to Fedora 21

There is no redundancy here, dnf has a default setting of:

installonly_limit of '3'

so it will keep retaining those kernels until they reach 3 deep. After that the oldest
kernel will be...

Re: enabled ip_forwarding now cant disable it! :(

I still don't understand what you mean, maybe someone else can answer. The kernel has precompiled key's in it, for example, the "ip_forward" is '0' in
the default case for Fedora 22 kernel 4.1.6,...

Re: Want to exclude wireless at home but allow on the road

But that doesn't really turn off wireless in its entirety when I'm on wired. What I want is what happens when I uncheck the wireless top left checkbox in the NM widget, I want all wireless to be...

Re: enabled ip_forwarding now cant disable it! :(

The current Fedora 22 just comes with a /etc/sysctl.conf file bundled with the "systemd" package
that's an empty stub (just a comment about what it is but no actual working sysctl values in it)

Re: Problem Updating with dnf

What do you expect to happen? This command just walks the /var/cache/dnf and deletes a bunch of files
All it shows to the console is something like:

But you would notice the next "dnf...

Re: Can't dnf just use differential metadata?

I was finding the "git" idea pretty interesting, git already has lots of infrastructure in place
to send back just what's changed since that's a lot of what goes on with a "git pull | fetch"

One...

about this in "programming and packaging" group, I want them to...

Can't dnf just use differential metadata?

DNF seems to go to heroic lengths to minimize getting metadata, currently it has a systemd
timed process that goes and updates the metadata by timer.

Wouldn't it work for dnf to contact the...

Re: enabled ip_forwarding now cant disable it! :(

To make this clear, running 'sysctl -p' is only needed to load all the values from /etc/sysctl.conf
into the running kernel right now.

It has nothing to do with making anything "default"...

Want to exclude wireless at home but allow on the road

When I'm home I frequently use a wired connection for my laptop but
on the road I use public wireless points.

When I'm plugged into my home 192.168.1.* network and the route is 192.168.1.0/24...

I've found "dnf clean metadata" works usually. dnf clean all wipes all the dnf caches and causes a very large download.

many /etc/cron.{daily,hourly}/ files are poorly chmoded

I was just noticing:
These are poorly set from a security standpoint (bolded "x" bits on other group) aren't they?
Why should cron scripts under /etc/cron.* expose themselves to the "other" group...

Re: Cannot download d/dnf-1.0.2-3.fc22.noarch.rpm: All mirrors were tried

dnf clean metadata

then do

dnf update

might be enough

I found this page helpful, it explains a lot of dnf vs yum differences
