pulse audio - device conflict

All,

The system is Fedora 8, an upgrade from FC7. Sound works correctly in FC7. Sound does not work in 8. The system is an upgrade and ALSA/OSS were the default in 7. Pulse starts, report connections, etc. however there is no sound.

How can the service that owns the driver be identified?

Pulse does not report errors, however there is not sound. Is there a way to debug this?

Skype starts, dials, connects, etc. however there is no sound on 8 (7 works).
