Ralink RT2800 issues

I have the wonderfully awful HP DV6000 and recently dumped vista and loaded fedora 12. I've been having trouble with my pci wireless that came with the laptop, so i bought a usb adapter. I'm having problems getting it working, and in the network connection area on the top panel it says "device not ready" how can i fix this?

im sorry if this is a dumb question as i am new to linux

Jason
