Hey all. It has been quite some time, but I have an issue that I just can't seem to nail down. Whenever running Enemy Territory(either version), it runs with no sound. I look in the log and find this:

------- sound initialization -------
/dev/dsp: No such file or directory
Could not open /dev/dsp
------------------------------------

Naturally, I try the ls command:

"ls: cannot access /dev/dsp: No such file or directory"


I used to be extremely well with linux, but haven't used it since Fedora Core 6. I am now using Fedora 14.

No go. The most useful link happens to never work: the et sdl audio link. I tried everything else on the page and nothing. Always with the same result: no such file or directory. Everything else with sound works just fine

Lucky for you, I got the file still in my backups, it's attached. The et-sdl-sound.gz is the file they are linking to, the other 2 are from my setup when I had ET installed.

The rest is for you to solve.

P.S. Using this solution never caused any issues with PB.

Thanks! After I got the file(finally), it was pretty simple.

gunzip et-sdl-sound.gz
chmod a+x et-sdl-sound
su -
chown root. et-sdl-sound
mv et-sdl-sound /usr/local/games/enemy-territory

and change /usr/local/games/enemy-territory/et

cd "/usr/local/games/enemy-territory/"
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:.
./et-sdl-sound "$@"

Now my only issue is getting kicked by PB. Even after manually updating.

Usually happens if it can't verify and update when you connect. Can't remember the solution for that - been long time. Just make sure you run the PB update in game directory to start with and check the PB log for the reason you were kicked. Good luck.

I am gonna go out on a limb. Try, killall -9 pulseaudio
Once you are done playing fire it back up or reboot to get the sound back to the way it was.

Since it is a 32bit game and assuming you are on 64bits maybe grab alsa-lib.i686 alsa-oss.i686 etc etc. These are just guess's but as a Linux gamer myself I do know that pulseaudio is still the worse thing to ever happen to desktop Linux.
