I am new in linux...and facing problems with package management like how to install a package,i know there are ways like using source and using tarball,i want to know how to install,find the installed package and removing them..

Any help is welcomed

Read about yum and rpm.

rpm is a package handler, yum is a dependency manager and supports repositories for downloading packages.

I downloaded a .tar.gz file and want to install it...i unpackd the archive and now when i run ./configure file...it shows xml2-config not foung. now what should i do?

If there is any special need to install from source first search for your package with yum

yum search package_name

Then choose the package you need and

yum install package_name

Install it.

You search for missing applications with 'yum provides */<file>'. According to that you likely need the "libxml2-devel' package.
