help needed! anybody can help

hello there guys,

it's a trivial thing!
can somebody grab a source of gcc, preferably on x86_64, fedora 16

] # yum install rpmdevtools && rpmdev-setuptree && cd rpmbuild
] # yumdownloader --source gcc && yum-builddep gcc_$justDownloaded.rpm

and try to rpm rebuild it

] # rpmbuild -bb --target x86_64 --nodeps SPECS/gcc.spec
or
] # rpbuild --rebuild gcc_$justDownloaded.rpm

mind you gcc_$justDownloaded.rpm is just a name here in this post and when you do it it should be whatever rpm package version your yum fetched

!! can you only please make sure you do NOT use any custom macros nor variables in/durring your rpm build. It should be plain-vanilla rpmenv

if you do then please be patient as it takes time to rebuild
for me these rebuilds always!! fail and RedHat claim it is my environment and there is nothing wrong with rpm.src

a million!! thanks to you for helping out
let us know how it went for you
cheers
lejeczek

Re: help needed! anybody can help

Have you installed redhat-rpm-config?
And you should not be doing this as the root user. Do the rebuild as a regular user.

Re: help needed! anybody can help

I suspect you will not get anyone offering to do this until you have tried (and then told us the result) of PabloTwo's suggestion.

I might have time to try this, but certainly not until you have tried his suggestions.

Re: help needed! anybody can help

You also should show what the actual failure messages are...

If you are missing the gcc compiler, then you certainly will not be able to use rpmbuild to make it...

@leigh123linux

thanks! mate,
just to double check - so you do not help it in any way whatsoever??
what's your command line?

rebuilds for me fail on check-rpaths, specifically:

0x0020 ... an RPATH references '..' of an absolute path; this will break.....

only way I can get it through is actually to follow check-rpaths's advice,
and my env is plain-vanilla, so I'd like to think, I've checked I think everything I could think of, and I've tried scientific and Oracle,

version I'm trying to rebuild is gcc-4.6.2-1.fc16.src.rpm (but also gcc-4.4.5-6.el6.src.rpm)

I'm at loss for ways to troubleshoot it, at least tonight, I'll give it another bash tomorrow

I used
Code:
rpmbuild --rebuild gcc-4.6.2-1.fc16.src.rpm
You could avoid the rpath issue by building in mock

Re: help needed! anybody can help

point being there should be no issue, rpaths should not be avoided and reubuild should just well, work. But it fails for me, and I really wonder if it does only for me.
