Unable to login to root thru terminal window?

Ok - let me start by saying that I am somewhat new to linux - sorry for being a newb.

I installed Fedora (original) on a Dell Latitude notebook a couple of days ago without any problems, but now I am unable to login to root through a terminal window. I have been able to do this before, but for some reason I am unable too do this now. To my knowlwdge there has been no system changes. I am able to login to root from the logon screen, I can also login to root to make sys changes when I am logged in as me - just not through a terminal window. I receive a "incorrect login" message when I key in the username and pword. What could be the problem?

Thanks in advance!
