Can anyone recommend a good UPS?

Hi all!

I'm considering a UPS for the server at work. It is actually running CentOS5.2. Nobody lists their specs in regards to linux.

I'd like to find a basic USP for a small file server (1.2 gig Athlon). I would like to find one that can shut it down if battery runs out. to prevent crashing it.

Thanks

Cory

APC is usually the tops in brand name. Depending on the model it can tell just about any OS to shutdown if power is running out. Biggest cost is the name for APC. Some others can do the same. There are some utilites out there that can communicate to the serial port of UPSes.

I would also go with APC. It's worth the extra money, and pretty much any APC unit can signal a shutdown to a linux host.

Got one of the lower end APC models for home while ago and been using the brand at work for a longer time ---> been satisfied (same OS lineage and works for us), making sure the power figures etc. are sufficient for whatever you plan to plug in is naturally worthwhile.

APC seems to be the brand of choice but there is also Tripp-Lite.
