Fedora 10 Freezes after few minutes of booting

Hi,

I am having this problem with F 10. First I get the infamous message: Could not detect stabilization, waiting 10 seconds. at the beginning of the booting process. then after I initiate startx, I use gnome, all works fine and only for few minutes and the system freezes. At first the mouse freezes, then after 30 seconds or so, the mouse's cursor can move but clicks are ineffective, not even Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, or Ctrl+Alt+Del. I have to do hard reset.

I use a Toshiba Satellite laptop, A135-S2386.

I have the same problem on my HP laptop. Reinstall F10 again but did not help. Mostly it freezes immediately after starting Firefox but some times I can't even login. It started behaving bad after Dec 11-12 updates. But this did not happen on my Desktop.

After googling the following worked. Added these lines in Device section of xorg.conf. ( My card is ATI Radeon XPRESS 200M).

Option "AccelMethod" "XAA"
Option "DRI" "On"

If you don't have the xorg.conf, Please generate it using
$ Xorg -configure

Firefox and F10 freezing -> mousewheel-related?

I had the same problem. I noticed F10 froze when I used my mouse wheel in Firefox while in Google/News.

I saw that the default Firefox browser window was maxed out in the vertical but not the horizontal and assumed that this was some sort of inability to get the screen monitor dimensions accurately.

I changed the browser window so it is not maxed out in either direction and everything was fine after that.

I'm runnning F10 on DELL D630 and I experienced the same issues.Only mouse works, but everything became unclickable. Also every keystroke is uneffective.
Did you solve the issue with browser preferences or with Xorg parameters in the xorg.conf file ???
Thanks
Tommy

Thank's a lot!
I've just made these changes and I will let you know in the next 24 hours
if my D630 will be still up'n running.

Hi,

XAA may workarund this issue but you will loose performance as EXA is the best accel method.
Go and get intellinux drivers and compile it with your running kernel.
It solved the issue for me.
