Picasa will not run on x86_64
I've tried to install Picasa and the ver. 3 beta would not install at all and ver 2.7 installed but will not open. I'm running Fedora 11 64 bit.
What needs to be done to make it work?

My first thought would be to run it from a terminal and see what error output you get.

[davek@localhost ~]$ picasa
/usr/bin/picasa: line 139: 4326 Segmentation fault "$PIC_BINDIR"/wrapper check_dir.exe.so
[davek@localhost ~]$
Just installed Picasa 3 on my other PC running Xubuntu 9.04 64bit and it installed perfectly.

Purely a guess: perhaps your 64-bit F11 OS is missing some 32-bit libs that Picasa requires (but that the RPM has not been flagged as dependencies).
You might try installing some basic 32-bit packages/libs, if they're not already there (e.g.: glibc.i586, libX*.i586). From http://pack.google.com/intl/en/learn...frameset.html:
Quote:
System Requirements:
Linux system with x86-compatible processor
Glibc 2.3.2 or greater, and a working X11 display system
256MB RAM
100MB available hard disk space
Desktop Integration features require a current version of Gnome or KDE.
Downloading from Picasa Web Albums requires a Mozilla-based browser like Firefox.

what 32bit files need to be installed?
I'm starting to think that 64 bit system is more trouble than its worth.

At a minimum, I would suggest (based on a very quick read of the links posted above):
glibc.i586, libXi.i586, openssl.i586

P.S. Thread title edited to more closely reflect actual situation.

All were already installed, but yum did an upgrade of glibc.i586 and openssl.i586
What other files would be needed?
So I guess if I installed F-11 32bit I wouldn't be having this problem?

Please consult the links that I provided in Post #6 above, and see if any of the suggested fixes work. I hesitate to go into details here because (A) you can read these yourself and apply the suggestions, (B) the proposed fixes may involve opening security breaches that I don't like/can't vouch for, and (C) I don't know/can't verify if those fixes will work or even if they're needed.

I can't verify this either without installing Picasa, and I had hoped someone else would come along to verify before I had to do so. If necessary, I'll install Picasa, after you have exhausted all other options.

Post #6 didn't have any info that would solve the problem.
I need to install a list of 32 bit files that will enable me to install Picasa on Fedora 11. If nobody can come of with a way to install Picasa, I'll go back to my other PC running Xubuntu when I need to use Picasa.

After yum upgrade. Picasa 3 was able to install.
But I can't log into Gmail to email photos. Sorry for second thread. Please continue here:
