AVI File & MPlayer

I have the struggle when trying to play avi file .
I left-click the avi file (MPlayer is run as default); and I have the fatal error report:

FATAL: Could not initialize video filters (-vf) or video output (-vo)

It seems MPlayer is the default player in my env Fedora11 KDE.
When I do the same with others formats (mp3, mpeg, etc) , MPayer works well.

VLC works well with these formats, but it is very verbose: it displays many messages on bash terminal (so disturbing while working).
Need help.
Thx

Why not just start VLC from the GUI, or hide it's output:
Code:
vlc filename &> /dev/null
I'm not sure why mplayer can't play the file though, that sounds like a codec problem.

how and WHAT codecs did you install for mplayer ??
i would install everything in DM's guide here
http://www.dnmouse.org/codecs.html

for mplayer the "all-20071007" codex is the one you want.

I have installed this:

But I still have the same error described previously;
AND Now I GOT ONE MORE error message while mpeg file is running correctly:
" Error! Unsupported PixelFormat-1 "

It gets worse. Now I want to remove all Mplayer codecs, may be to install it again properly. How to do (commands)?
