Un-install/remove any unnecessary software packages ?

Compress/remove any unnecessary data, log, or other files ??

Determine where HDD space is being used ???

Install BleachBit, through yum or yumex. The first time it runs, check for updates. You'll find one that "runs as Administrator;" download the rpm and install it. Both of them will end up on the System Tools menu. When you run the newest one, expect it to ask for the root password. Select most, if not all of the options in the System submenu and run Preview, so that you can see what's going to happen, then, if that's OK, let it do the deletes. I've been running F 10 on this box almost since it came out, and this got rid of about 810Megs, mostly obsolete logs, backup files and so-forth.

The regular version is used to clean up things like your firefox cache, download history and so on, but is limited by your own permissions.

sidebrnz, we're talking F8 here. I'm not sure the repos are still available.

Sorry, didn't notice. In that case, just go to http://bleachbit.sourceforge.net/ and get it right from the horse's mouth.

Well, here's where he can get an rpm of bleachbit for F9. There are no rpm packages for F8. It's written in Python, and looking at the 'Requires', it should install and run on F8 without any problems. Looks like this is the 'user space' version. Haven't located the Administrator version sidebrnz referred to yet.

Actually, the way I read the OP's post is that he's asking how to increase the partition size of his F8 install.

Edit: If I had dug down deep enough on the rpm.pbone page... I would have seen there is a package built for F8, but it's a rather much older version. I'd go with the F9 package.

If you install it and let it check for updates, it will find it for you.

Yes, of course there is.

But you need to provide more information regarding your disk layout, for example are you using LVM or regular partitions?

Well, LVM definitely complicates things, just a little though. I suggest you grab a Fedora Live CD.

From the LiveCD you'll need to make room, you can use gparted for that, shrink whatever partitions you need to. The LiveCD should also have system-config-lvm.

Also, at this point I suggest you either start a new thread or at a minimum rename this one, we have several members who can walk you through this if you need it, but "Regarding Fedora 8" is unlikely to attract their attention.

Try something like "Need help extending LVM", and include the output from 'fdisk -l' so they can see what you are working with.

Also have a look around the forum, just in case http://forums.fedoraforum.org/search...11489836&pp=25
