Hmm... except that
1) the codename really matters very little
2) The default theme can be changed, you know.

Looks like someone got fancy and installed Windows 7...
Codenames are cool, but I wish they would stop naming them after ships... I rather have "drunk" names like the first 5 releases than named after a boat.

tom had to join myself an GallComp by using win7, its a lot better than Vista. but names arent really used anyway, if your answering a post an wanna know what release someone is using there gonna say F11 or somehting like that, not the name, so names are kinda irrelevant i think

I agree, but seems more of like a "tradition" now.

The names all have an "is-a" relationship with the previous name.
Constantine is-a Leonidas
Leonidas is-a Cambridge
Cambridge is-a Sulphur
Sulphur is-a Werefolf
Isn't it obvious ?
The truth is there is a vote for the cr*ppiest possible Distro name - and the winner is .. Fn+1.

Hence my not-so-tongue-in-cheek reference above.
If we consider Constantine as John Constantine, then we could select "Hennessy" as the next codename - Hennessy being the name of a friend of John Constantine.
Then Fedora would return to its boozer roots, and Fedora 13's codename would have a relation to the previous one. Am I right?
(Of course, as far as I know, there was no Father Hennessy in the Hellblazer comic, but was instead an invention for the movie. Purists would probably be irked.)

And, in today's mail....it begins again!
Quote:
With Fedora 12 just a few days from release it is time to begin the
naming process for the next Fedora release.
Contributors can make suggestions for the name for Fedora 13 by visiting
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Name_..._for_Fedora_13
and following the instructions.
Remember there needs to be an "is-a" link between the name Constantine
and the name you suggest and this link must be different than all
previous links used to connect Fedora release names.
Full details of the release naming schedule are available on the above
link but please note than the period for gathering suggestions begins
now and runs through November 16.
So there isn't a lot of time, think up some good names, and get them
added to the wiki.
Have fun,
John

Leonidas → Constantine → <new name>? Constantine is a <blank>, and so is <new name>.
|
I don't mean to go religious, but who wants to take bets that the next name is the name of a pope?
Here's to Fedora 13, codename Innocent XIII.
EDIT: Actually, come to think of it, I'm partial to the "is a Roman Emperor" angle. Who wouldn't want the next codename to be Nero or Caligula?

Better by far: "Hellblazer" : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constantine_%28film%29
Of course, since that's probably a TradeMarked name and we'd be sued....

Ahh, but, they said that movie- or comic-related suggestions would be whack-a-moled.
(Personally I was surprised to read it was codenamed Constantine, considering how the #1 connotation of Constantine is Constantine I, one of the most controversial religious and political figures in all of history.)

Nero is already taken by a disc-burning crapware.
I'd vote for Caligula I like that play by Albert Camus

Yeah. That's the problem. You can trademark a name that's literally thousands of years old.
Caligula would likely not be deemed acceptable as a codename given that Tinto Brass/Gore Vidal flick.

Constantine - seems he was a man that brought the church of power into the church of piety (to borrow names from the sociologist Rodney Stark). From there the church became what today is the oldest institution in the Occident having a clear record of organizational structure barking up the tree of 2000 years. It would be GREAT if Fedora had even a tenth that much life via its "Constantine".
