Windows 7 still vulnerable
Apparently, Windows 7 is still vulnerable to eight out of ten viruses (etc.):

And Mac OSX 10.6 has more market share than Ubuntu 9.10.
How fast something sells doesn't mean anything in this context.

May I politely remind posters that the thead topic refers to continued malware vulnerability of Windows 7 .... which is being widely advertised as "secure" in glossy, frequently-shown TV commercials (at least in Oz). It is, IMO, a worthy topic.
Perhaps my attempt at humour threw people off ... I did use the right smiley, didn't I?
Anyway folks, as the thread starter, please stay on topic, restrain the inner fanboi and remember this is a Linux forum.

Isn't that UAC feature just Windows version of root login? If so, how is it supposed to prevent any moron from clicking "yes" and installing their daily malware fix?
If it's supposed to be virus and malware scanner preventing people from installing malicious programs same time, then I agree that it has failed miserably.

Even when you use an administrator account, User Account Control provides heightened security. By default, most programs run with the permissions of a standard user, which limits the potential damage they (or malware acting through those programs) can do.

Microsoft.com
It will protect you from two out of ten "viruses".

Interesting article. It seems the UAC has been weakened to avoid the multiple nag messages. This is too bad. As it mentions, Vista is pretty secure. I wish they had kept the default level on par with that, I firmly believe I could ditch my anti-virus in Vista and still remain secure with just the common sense operating procedures I am used to with a Windows OS.
In any case, this says it all:

The experiment proves that the improved User Account Control (UAC) features built into Windows 7 are not enough and that additional anti-virus protection is still required. In fairness to Redmond, Microsoft crystal clear that anti-virus remains a necessary add-on to Windows PCs
|
So you install AVG free or Avast like most people do anyway. Doesn't change a thing I would say that despite a couple minor hiccups like the upgrade problem and this that Windows 7 has been a great success so far. Too bad that makes some people mad. It is just an OS, really! Linux is not going to take over the world, I know that is hard to believe...

No matter what Microsoft does to their ONION Operating System for security, each layer will just keep on getting worse.

They simply do nothing.
It is vry good business model:
1) sell virus to one side
2) sell anti-virus to other side
3) sell OS where everything works for both sides (da best opt)
