Firefox plugins for audio files

I've just come from a website that had mpeg and x-aiff audio files, neither of which Firefox would play. I got the "missing plugins" banner, but when I clicked on install I was told nothing suitable was available.

I was able to play the files, by downloading with Download Helper and playing in Rhythmbox, but surely there should be some plugin? I've tried a yum search, but nothing obvious showed up, nor was Google helpful.

I installed the package gecko-mediaplayer, which is an mplayer plugin for firefox. with this plugin, you can also stream non-flash videos like e.g. divx...

Well, I've installed gecko-mediaplayer and I don't get the missing-plugins banner any more. On the other hand, the links on that website no longer show, so I can't even see to download the files now

hmm, that's weird... perhaps the plugin doesn't get initialised correctly.
you could try to start firefox from terminal, and see if there are any error messages, or just check .xsession-errors

I've just found that another site I used successfully before gecko-media player uses aiff files, so the problem is obviously this new website's coding, not Firefox.
