I transferred my evolution files from an old computer to a new computer by using Evolution File>Backup on the old computer, copying the backup file to the new computer and using Evolution File>Restore.
My mail transferred properly and works fine. But I seemed at first to have lost all my old appointments in my calendar. In addition, I noticed new entries appeared doubled or worse in the slot. I then noticed that at the left the

Personal
appeared twice and was checked twice.
Unchecking the second occurrence eliminated the doubling of the entries. But I don't see any way to eliminate the duplicate entry.
In addition, in the process of trying to figure it out I tried looking at the files in .evolution/calendar/local/system.
In particular. There were three calendar.ics files there. I tried moving one of them into a tmp directory, but that didn't make any difference. I don't know what I did, but I seem to have removed the system directory. A find shows that, and its contents have been moved to
./.local/share/evolution/calendarsystem
But at this point my old appointments have reappeared in my calendar.
Since it all seems to be working now, perhaps I should leave well enough alone, but I think there must be something seriously wrong.
Can anyone tell me what probably happened and let me know how to straighten it all out?
Added later:
I found out from the evolution listserve that because of a bug in evolution, I can't remove the copy. I can live with that for the present.
But I still don't know why the calendar.ics files were move to a subdirectory of ~/.local. Or why my old appointments, having vanished previously, suddenly reappeared.
