Question no sound in fedora 10

i dont hear any sound when i play music in fedora 10, i have a Sound Card. please help me with this.

What have you checked?

Have you used System - Preferences - Hardware - Volume Control and made sure that the sound is actually switched on? It may seem silly, but I was caught that way once.

Then try System - Preferences - Hardware - Sound and run the tests. If you don't get a sound, try changing the various device options.

Also, when you say "play music", do you mean a file on the computer or a CD? Optical disk players can decode music themselves and have a sound output socket. Windows doesn't use this facility: it reads the data off the disk and does its own decoding. A few computers assume this will happen and leave out the cable from the sound output to the motherboard. If the only missing sound is from CDs, this might be the problem.

By "play music" do you mean, for example, mp3 files? If yes, are you aware of that Fedora by default ships without codecs?

Ah yes, codecs! I forgot about them. At the top of this page you can click on Fedora Set-up Guides and that will tell you how to enable full multi-media support.

i try all but still no sound coming out. i play it from CD.
