Fedora 11 & Acer Aspire 5738Z Display problem
Greetings Folks,
I finally got Fedora 11 loaded on my Acer laptop, but I had to do it using the basic video option. Now I can only get 800x600 resolution. Does anyone know of a driver that will work with this machine?

My laptop is Acer Aspire 5582 NWXMi, when I try Fedora with GNOME, I also get the same trouble, but now I use KDE, it looks so good

Hi Sagitter,
Here's the result:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "vesa"
EndSection
I guess I should mention that when I let Fedora identify the video itself during the installation it did ID the video, but I don't know if it did it correctly, because as soon as it tried to go into a higher resolution that's when I lost the display and could not recover.
Prior to getting Fedora 11, I had OpenSuse installed, but it would only work in safe mode. Once I booted into safe mode I could change resolution, but it failed at the display's native resolution, which if I remember correctly it's 1366 x 768. When I tried 1024 x768 it worked.
Thanks!

Excuse me, 4268.
Try so:
reboot system on testual mode init 3, login root and:
Code:
# mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.vecchio
# X -configure
# mv /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
# reboot

Thanks Sagitter!
I'm not quite sure how to do this: reboot system on testual mode init 3. I looked in my grub.conf file and didn't see anything with init, so I just booted normally.
I ran the first command as root: # mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.vecchio
and it ran O.K., but I got the following error when I tried the next command:
# X -configure
Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock
and start again.
I'm really not sure what to do next and appreciate your help!
Thanks! 4268

Why ?

Start from here, login as root and type:
Code:
# mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.vecchio
# X -configure
# mv /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
# reboot

Sorry, but I don't know how to "reboot system on testual mode init 3." That's why I looked in my grub.conf file to see if there was something like that in there.
How do I reboot the system on testual mode init 3?
Thanks!
Regards, 4268

On boot, select kernel, press "e", select second line, press "e", to end of line type 3 so
Quote:
...
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686 ro root=UUID=f0a25911-900a-416a-9415-812389f837d1 quiet 3
...
|
enter and press "b".
Login as root and type:
Code:
# mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup
# X -configure
# mv /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
# reboot
