    IBM X3650 M3 Matrox g200ev

    Hi,

I would like to ask for an assistance, I have a new server with Fedora 11 64 bit Installed. Pressing, ctrl+alt+f2 (or F2-F6) all i get is black screen, no command line or anything, remote terminal connection is working fine. Is it due to the built in graphic card of IBM 3650 M3 w/ is Matrox G200EV, is there an available driver for fedora 11? thanks.

The Xorg Matrox driver is named mga - "man mga" will show you all the particulars.

    Re: IBM X3650 M3 Matrox g200ev

I have this problem with all our IBM System X servers and it's generally not been the lack of a driver but instead poor support of auto-sensing monitor capabilities. It always seems to auto-pick a resolution way outside the monitor or LCD's range.

To fix, you can start by modifying the /etc/grub.conf file and adding the: vga=ask directive, then sit by the console when it boots to select a sane/capable resolution (i.e. try like 1024x768x16 bit).

On mine, the vga=0x317 directive on the kernel commandline gives me F1-F6 high-resolution console terminals from FC12 to FC14 but that 0x317 is specific to the Matrox in my servers (3850's and 3650's). The "vga=ask" is helpful for finding the one you like and then hardcoding the desired resolution for subsequent boots.

    Hope this helps!

I've also found solutions for Matrox problems in the discussions here:
