Rebuild lirc in Fedora 12

Hi everyone,

I've got a mythtv install (mythdora 12) and a usb iguanaworks irblaster.

The problem lies with the default lirc does not contain the iguanaworks driver support and according to the iguanaworks support I need to download the src.rpm file for lirc and rebuild it with

Code:
rpmbuild --rebuild <lirc version>.src.rpm

I'm not entirely certain what I need to do. I don't see any src.rpm files in yumex to rebuild!

A million thanks in advance.

Moved to EOL (End Of Life) Versions

Try

Code:
yumdownloader --source lirc
su
yum-builddep lirc*rpm -y
exit
rpmbuild --rebuild lirc*rpm

Re: Rebuild lirc in Fedora 12

Thanks!

The rebuild seems to have worked.

How do I install these rpms now? There is the lirc and the libs that depend on each other so they both need to get installed at the same time or by somehow ignoring the dependancies.

Code:
[root@mythbox i386]# ls
lirc-0.8.6-7.md12.i386.rpm
lirc-libs-0.8.6-7.md12.i386.rpm
lirc-devel-0.8.6-7.md12.i386.rpm
lirc-remotes-0.8.6-7.md12.i386.rpm
lirc-doc-0.8.6-7.md12.i386.rpm
[root@mythbox i386]# rpm -Uvh lirc-0.8.6-7.md12.i386.rpm
              error: Failed dependencies:
        lirc-libs = 0.8.6-7.md12 is needed by lirc-0.8.6-7.md12.i386
[root@mythbox i386]#
cheers, thanks for the help.

Re: Rebuild lirc in Fedora 12

Hello
you could try using yum
Code:
yum install /path/to/lirc-libs-0.8.6-7.md12.i386.rpm
or try installing all together or in a different order, you won't need devel (yet) and maybe not docs

Re: Rebuild lirc in Fedora 12

Thanks for the reply.

I already have lirc installed (but lacked a certain driver...which is why I needed to rebuild) and now I have to install the newly rebuilt one. The problem is that removing the old one wants to take out my whole mythtv installation and several other things that depend on it.

Re: Rebuild lirc in Fedora 12

oh...I didn't realize multiples could be installed at the same time..

Thanks again...I'll try and rewrite this and put it on the mythdora forums for others who might have the same hardware.

cheers!

Hey KK did you ever do a write-up on the iguana receiver? I would like to use it with mythdora 12 as well.

Re: Rebuild lirc in Fedora 12

Not yet...I've had a few other hardware related issues but the iguana has been working quite well.

Between the iguanaworks 'getting started' page and what ligh123linux explains here (since the iguanaworks page just mentions rebuilding the kernel to get their driver installed) I seem to recall the only part I had to figure out was the lirc instances. Mythdora 12 has a script that was starting a copy of lirc but after installing the iguanaworks driver I couldn't get it to start, because lirc was already running. I couldn't find the mythdora script so I added a short one myself in rc5.d that simply shutdown lirc and restarted the one that I was configuring.

I'm sure there's a more graceful way of going about it but I didn't have much more time to put towards a better solution.
