Re: Desktop Background Switching - Glitch

I never even noticed screensavers being missing until someone pointed it out. I haven't used one for years, I don't really get the point; I guess you could use it as a kind of 'attract mode' for corporate purposes or at a trade show, but that's all I can really think of. For me it just makes sense to go straight from 'actual useful display' to 'screen blank to save power', a screensaver isn't any use...

BTW, have you ever compared the size of GIMP to Photoshop CS5? And I have found that I can do just about anything in GIMP that I can in Photoshop... In a MUCH much smaller package.
The GIMP is one of the best kept huge secrets in Open Source. Add it's cousins CinePaint, Inkscape, Blender and OOo Draw, and there isn't a helluva lot the Birkenstocks/photoshop folks can do that we can't. And the bottom line of a few donations vs a bazillion bucks for on-going licensing and upgrades sure is a lot easier on the wallet.

Re: Desktop Background Switching - Glitch

I haven't really used cinepaint very much, but I do quite a bit with Gimp and inkscape.

Also, have you tried MyPaint? It has a lot of nice brushes in it. Pretty good package if you do much drawing. Not too great for photos. though.

Re: Desktop Background Switching - Glitch

Well now! AdamW's apparently never needed a night light to guide his way to the bathroom at 3AM! THAT's what a screensaver will do for you!

So, after today's updates, back to the original problem: My desktop won't "stick". This is a selected desktop background that came from FedoraPlus and I've become fond of. Prior to today, it was there no matter what, although if I rebooted, I'd lose it.

Today, after these updates, even if I have open windows or working, the damned thing reverts to my "default" desktop after a single minute! No clue what's the change and there's no settings to try and modify. Here's the updates:

Might try killing wallpapoz since it never worked anyway.

Note: Might be related, might not, but prior to the updates, if I put "files" in my Favorites, I could click on the icon from there and launch Home. After the update, it's a dead icon.

Bob: "Well now! AdamW's apparently never needed a night light to guide his way to the bathroom at 3AM! THAT's what a screensaver will do for you!"

Being a terrible sucker for shiny gadgets, I have a Fenix E01 single-AAA powered LED flashlight on my keyring. Highly recommended, BTW - inexpensive but nicely bright and very solidly built...actually one of the most useful things I have, I wind up using it amazingly often.

Uhm ... Adam ... Just why is it you need to take your keys to the bathroom? Or do I really want to know? <....>

Re: Desktop Background Switching - Glitch

Well, the flashlight issue aside, 'cause I do have some low-watt night lights too, after a reboot I'm able to keep my background without issue. Strange that the "Files" in favorites no longer launches, but I'll keep working on it.

Re: Desktop Background Switching - Glitch

Well, mine's essentially solved by just adding AWN launcher for File Browser. Not exactly the same thing, but gets it done.
