Exclamation problem on "make"

Hello,
I tried to install "inkscape", but when I typed

it said:

See `config.log' for more details
So what could be the solution?

Re: problem on "make"

You need C++ compiler
Code:
yum install gcc
But why are you trying to install it through source?

You can simply get it from the official repositories with yum or "Add/Remove Software" -application.
Code:
yum install inkscape

Re: problem on "make"

It says you need the c++ compiler, so install gcc-c++ as well.

Re: problem on "make"

Thank you all, I didn´t know this "yum install"-stuff, but good to know.
But I have some other packages I want to install and which I only have as .tar package.
I installed the gcc-c++ and I think now the "./configure" works, but the "make" command now says:
Code:
make: *** Keine Targets angegeben und keine »make«-Steuerdatei gefunden. Schluss.
translated (I think so): No targets listed and no >>make>>-control file found. End.

I guess its because it doesn´t find the files created by "./configure".

I´m a completely newby in Linux and especially Fedora, so...

Re: problem on "make"

Is there some reason that
Code:
yum install inkscape
doesn't work for you? Perhaps your using an earlier release of Fedora but want the latest version 0.48.1?
Version 0.48.1 of inkscape has been built for both F14 and F15,or, at least they reside as such on koji.

If you need more help in determining the dependencies to compile it yourself, here is the list of build requirements from the F15 SRPM package of inkscape:
Quote:
Requires
ImageMagick-c++-devel
atk-devel
autoconf
automake
boost-devel
cairo-devel
desktop-file-utils
dos2unix
freetype-devel
gc-devel >= 6.4
gettext
gnome-vfs2-devel >= 2.0
gsl-devel
gtkmm24-devel >= 2.8.0
gtkspell-devel
intltool
lcms-devel >= 1.13
libpng-devel >= 1.2
libwpg-devel
libxml2-devel >= 2.6.11
libxslt-devel >= 1.0.15
pango-devel
perl(ExtUtils::Embed)
perl(XML::Parser)
pkgconfig
poppler-devel
popt-devel
python-devel

Re: problem on "make"

if for some reason you can NOT use the already built "inkscape" in the fedora reops
then READ the readme file for ALL the dependencies
there will BE A LOT .PabloTwo 's list looks about long enough

also install the "Development Tools" group and the "Development Libraries" group and possibly your desktop development gruop

that is A LOT of software
Code:
su -
yum grouplist
yum groupinstall "Development Tools" "Development Libraries"
