Question Wacom Bamboo Create CTH670 work in F11 ~ F16?

That's the long and the short of it. Thinking of trying a Wacom Bamboo Create, and I wonder if anyone has any experience with this model in fedora.

The OSes involved would be:

fedora
  • F11
  • F16

MINT
  • 10
  • 11
  • 12

Thanks!

I don't know what's the difference between that and Bamboo Pen & Touch I have, but mine's been working out of the box since F15. You may want to add some custom rules for different applications though (Gimp has some slight issues with it). For F11 you need to compile drivers yourself.

Thanks for the reply, Pete. I'm not too sure about the differences either. I found several references so far that indicate you have to build your own driver per kernel, and re-build it with each kernel update. But that's over on the Ubuntu forums.

What kind of issues does the GIMP have with it? The GIMP and I go a long way back, and that might be a determining factor.

Re: Wacom Bamboo Create CTH670 work in F11 ~ F16?

It's nothing critical, just something to do with limiting the tablet to editing window (you need to set that in Gimp tablet configuration when you have it connected). In tablet's configs, if you set the stylus to absolute or relative, you won't be able to use stylus to pull rulers.

I got all the info from the Wacom Wiki, the FAQs especially were very helpful. The Wiki is at:
http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawik...itle=Main_Page and here are the sample configurations from there:
http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawik..._Configuration
http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawik..._Configuration

I am using launcher to change the configuration for Inkscape and Gimp. Inkscape is:
Code:
#!/bin/bash

DEVICE="Wacom Bamboo 2FG 4x5"

STYLUS="$DEVICE Pen stylus"
ERASER="$DEVICE Pen eraser"
PAD="$DEVICE Finger pad"

## Stylus
xsetwacom set "$STYLUS" PressureCurve 0 15 85 100

## Eraser
xsetwacom set "$ERASER" PressureCurve 0 0 100 100

## Pad
xsetwacom set "$PAD" Button 1 "key F2" # Node tool
xsetwacom set "$PAD" Button 2 "key F1" # Selection tool
xsetwacom set "$PAD" AbsWheelDown "key minus" # Zoom out
xsetwacom set "$PAD" AbsWheelUp "key shift plus" # Zoom in
xsetwacom set "$PAD" Button 3 "key F9" # Toggle view mode
xsetwacom set "$PAD" Button 4 "key ctrl z" # Undo

exec inkscape
and for Gimp config:
Code:
#!/bin/bash

DEVICE="Wacom Bamboo 2FG 4x5"

STYLUS="$DEVICE Pen stylus"
ERASER="$DEVICE Pen eraser"
PAD="$DEVICE Finger pad"

## Stylus

## Eraser

## Pad
xsetwacom set "$PAD" Button 1 "key shift ctrl n" # New layer
xsetwacom set "$PAD" Button 2 "key p"  # Paintbrush
xsetwacom set "$PAD" AbsWheelDown "key minus" # Zoom out
xsetwacom set "$PAD" AbsWheelUp "key shift plus" # Zoom in
xsetwacom set "$PAD" Button 3 "key a"  # Airbrush
xsetwacom set "$PAD" Button 4 "key control z" # Undo
P.S. Had a quick look at Wacom Bamboo Create specs and it seems that it's just Pen & Touch renamed and supplied with more software.

Re: Wacom Bamboo Create CTH670 work in F11 ~ F16?

I don't think the support for the CTH670 is in the Fedora kernel yet. It's being put into the 3.3 kernel, and I'm not certain if Fedora has backported it yet (or if they are going to). (It wasn't put in until the middle to end of Oct)

Even then, I don't think all features of the CTH670 are fully supported yet, even in the 3.3 kernel module. I remember seeing something about the multifinger touch gesture stuff not being implemented for that model yet, but I could be wrong.

I have the CTH460 and just like Pete, mine has worked with Fedora since F15, but prior to that, I had to pull the linuxwacom drivers and build my own kernel module. I posted on here several places how to do that. It's not hard, just a PITA to keep up with rebuilding it every time you get a kernel update.

I haven't had any issues at all with mine and gimp, though. I just set it up in the extended input devices in gimp, and it work fine in both absolute and relative mode, although I prefer absolute mode.

I do like those nice scripts that Pete put up there to change the config, though.. I do believe they have been swiped Thanks, Pete

Dang!

I may just wait a bit then. F16 still changes kernels like most folks change their socks. It'll stabilize around the release of F18 though ... I suppose. <....>

Yea, something tells me that the "Beefy Miracle" won't be much of a miracle at all.

Was just doing some looking around, and I really like that Bamboo Create. I may upgrade mine and grab one of those tablets myself.

Hey. I have an idea.. You grab one, send it to me and I will play around and see if I can get it to work in F16..

(Note that I said nothing about sending it back, though. )
