Upgrades Don't Work with PreUpgrade...

I have done some searching and can't find the way to get F14 to upgrade to either F15 or F16. All it does is reboot to F14 again. I don't know if it is getting hung up on GRUB, if there is a GRUB 2 installed and being used but not working, or if the mirrored RAID is causing it issues.

I have looked at the PreUpgrade page and tried to get to the command line for grub but I can never get there. I have tried modifying the menu file but that appears to have no influence.

I am at a lost and any help would be appreciated.

I have a suspicion that the upgraded is not changing my grub file or that GRUB2 is not getting installed. I had tried inserting a new entry myself without success.

Is there anyone that can show me what grub.conf from the /boot/grub/ folder should look like to reboot into the installer?

Another issue that may be happening is that the boot partition where /boot is located is in a RAID array. I am trying to disable that array but keep getting an error in trying to do so. Not sure how to get past this error at this time. I removed the second drive and it shows the status as degraded but it still won't let me stop the RAID array.

Via the site http://www.tcpdump.com/kb/os/linux/r...d-devices.html I was able to remove the RAID partition on the boot but still no success with the upgrade.

When starting the pre upgrade I am also seeing the following which has me wondering if there are packages missing.

Quote:
Loaded plugins: blacklist, langpacks, whiteout
No plugin match for: rpm-warm-cache
No plugin match for: remove-with-leaves
No plugin match for: auto-update-debuginfo
Adding en_US to language list

As root, edit /boot/grub/grub.conf after preupgrade completes, but before you try to reboot and make sure that it now includes an entry for the upgrade. Also, if the line specifying the time out period looks like this:

timeout=0

change it to 5. That will tell grub to give you five seconds to press a key (space is a good idea) before starting to boot. When it does, select the upgrade option and press Enter. The upgrade will install grub2 but not replace legacy grub; that's something you'll need to do yourself later.

Re: Upgrades Don't Work with PreUpgrade...

Thanks for the tip. I ended up messing up my system before getting your suggestion and so performing a fresh install. The problem is that now I have a box that boots to the GRUB command line and won't go any further. Most commands return Error 27 and if I set ROOT (HD0,0) which is where the boot should be I get an error of unknown file type. I have tried the install several times now and am getting frustrated with whole process.

I got the system to boot finally by re-installing and breaking up the boot system raid array but now the data array won't run. It shows one of the two drives as being offline or something and won't allow me to remove it or re-add it.
