Advice needed - Fedora install next to two existing Linux partitiions

Hi All,

First poster here. Non IT specialist. Computer hobbyist.

I have a 250 Gb laptop with Xubuntu 11.10 And Linux Mint (200 and 50 Gb partitions respectively) installed.

I like to mess around and try out new operating systems and I would like to install Fedora on a minimal partition. My intention is to take 10 Gb off the Mint partition and put Fedora there. (Xubuntu is my primary OS on that machine and the 200 Gb is where I store all my stuff - such as it is).

I have already burned the Fedora live CD.

So, my question is: How do I go about installing Fedora as described above so that when I start the computer I have a grub list with all three OSs to choose from, (X)ubuntu being the default boot?

I am familiar with installing ubuntu-based systems alongside others and using startup manager to choose the default. But as Fedora is not ubuntu based, I thought I'd better check out the procedure with some knowledgeable folks first before my laptop sails down the swanee...

With thanks in advance
Tim

Your Ubuntu boot loader should be able to add Fedora to the menu. After Fedora is installed boot Ubuntu and run sudo update-grub (or whatever the Ubuntu command is these days). Prior to that, during the Fedora install, choose to install Fedora's boot loader to the root partition, the same one you're installing Fedora to, instead of the MBR. That way you're existing Ubuntu boot loader won't be overwritten.

By the way, welcome to Fedora Forum

OK. I think I get that. Thanks.

While you're there: So, when the Fedora installation is going on, will I be able to choose 10 Gbs from the existing Mint partition in quite a straightforward way, either by moving a slider or selecting the number of Gbs from that particular named partition.?

Also: the grub currently operating is the one created by Mint. Can I update that in a similar way?

Thanks for the welcome, by the way.
Sure I'll be back with a shedload more questions!
