Need a file ancryption program for linux fedora 16
I have some sensetive data that need securing. I know about RSA and PGP encryption programs, but htey are all for Windows. Does anyone know any encryption program that i can download and install for linux fedora 16.
It must encrypt txt files and such.
And then if you know how i can encrypt my entire harddrive content without reinstalling linux fedora. i will apreciate it

I believe one option is openssl and encrypt specific files. Also, What about seahorse, if you are using GNOME on Fedora? I have used seahorse but did not like it very much though ..

GPG (GNU Privacy Guard) is the FOSS implementation of PGP. Install the "gnupg2" package. It's a command-line program, so you may want a graphical front-end program too, but I don't know which ones to recommend.

LUKS/dm-crypt is the normal way to encrypt disks in Linux. It's quite difficult to do this without reinstalling though. There's also ecryptfs, which allows you to mount an encrypted directory over itself. The files are stored on disk as individual encrypted files in the host file-system. You could use this for your home directory, and just copy the files across that you want encrypted, but beware that the unencrypted blocks containing the deleted old files' data will remain on disk until the file-system chooses to overwrite them. Also you should still use dm-crypt for your swap partition.

Emacs is a good GUI front-end; it has built-in GPG support (assumes you have the pinentry-qt package installed):

True, although I've no idea why you'd want to... Compatibility with encrypted Windows volumes maybe?

Yeah, I think a lot of people still dual boot due to the some of the setbacks of using linux, but still want linux as their primary desktop because of all the benefits.

Yes, you are sounding quite demanding, and I have little patients this morning. As such here is a link to the solution for your first problem. It should also help you solve the rest.

To create encrypted archives of files, you could use PeaZip on Linux. You can download a rpm package from this link. I would use 7z or Pea format to compress files, to set a password you have to click on the lock. There is only a rpm package for 32bit systems, but it should work on a 64bit Fedora too.
