Printing from Windows Vista to Samba printer...
Strange corner case... I have Samba running on F16. I have directory shares and a printer share configured. I am able to access the directory shares from multiple Win7, WinVista machines, and iPad; I am able to print to the Samba printer from the Win7 machines. But, when I try to configure a WinVista machine to print to the Samba printer, WinVista is able to see the printer, I am able to pick a driver, but then when I select a driver, WinVista comes back and says "Cannot connect to printer".
Any ideas?

Re: Printing from Windows Vista to Samba printer...
Sounds like a vista problem. Is the vista machine in the same workgroup/domain, and is file & printer sharing enabled in it's firewall. If you're using 3rd party firewall software make sure SMB ports are open.

Re: Printing from Windows Vista to Samba printer...
Hi Doug G, it does seem Windows Vista is the source of this issue. I have checked the firewall settings, and both file and printer sharing are enabled. I figure since I am able to map to the Samba drive share from the VIsta machine, the firewall should be good. Since I have two different VIsta machines showing the same issue, I have to wonder if there is some note somewhere about registry setup that I haven't found, yet.
I do have to wonder, though, about the fact that I did not have an issue with the Samba printer when I was running F14. This issue only showed up when I rolled to F16 with Samba 3.6.3.

Re: Printing from Windows Vista to Samba printer...
Unfortunately (or happily!) I don't have any Vista machines around to experiment on. Make sure port 445 is open in the firewall on the linux machine.
If it helps, I have a samba printer on Fedora 15 and checked, the fedora computer has ports 137-139 and 445 open, and 137-139 open for UDP too, and I'm pretty sure I've printed to this printer from Vista machines in the past.
There are some 'exotic' NTLM settings you can find in gpedit.msc in local policy-computer-windows settings-security settings-local policies-security options where you can set things like require 128bit encryption, etc. Like the registry, be cautious when making changes in these settings.

"Cannot connect to printer"
That's generic. Typically I see it because the user doesn't have print admin privileges on samba. Usually noticed when you open the printer que on windows. Try allowing anonymous to print.

Still haven't figured this one out. Have found I cannot access this Samba server from WinXP machine. I get "Access Denied" response. If anyone has any additional ideas, that would be great.
