shortcut to change the language
Hi there!!
I'm very novice in Fedora, and I want to know how can I make my custom keyboard shortcut in order to change the keyboard language from one language to another.
Thanks in advance!!

Re: shortcut to change the language
If you are talking about keyboard layout, from a terminal, you can use system-config-keyboard. if you are talking about OS language, use system-config-language.
Assuming you are using GNOME, open System settings, choose Keyboard, in the Shortcuts tab, choose custom and add a shortcut there. In the command window that pops up, enter whichever one you need (from above).
Hope this helps. Welcome to the forum

What exactly did not work for you? Did they keyboard layout not change? I assume you want the OS language to remain English (or what you have setup now?)

Re: shortcut to change the language
Assuming you are using GNOME or KDE, take a look at the documentation page. This describes how the keyboard layout can be changed in Fedora 16.
Hope this helps.

Hi there!*
Thanks about your reply.
I know how to switch between two keyboard layouts via the status bar that located at the top of the screen. I'm looking for a way to change the keyboard layout by using at a keyboard shortcut, and this is not described at the page you refer me to.
Wait for your reply!!

Re: shortcut to change the language
Look at setxkbmap.
From the man page,
Quote:
SETXKBMAP(1)
NAME
setxkbmap - set the keyboard using the X Keyboard Extension
SYNOPSIS
setxkbmap [ args ] [ layout [ variant [ option ... ] ] ]

Is this what you are looking for?

Re: shortcut to change the language
I know it's sort of an old subject, but i was looking for the same thing. Found it through OS's help, who would have though huh? ...but i'm using CentOS 6.3 though.
First i added a keyboard indicator to the top panel. Then i went right click on the indicator --> Keyboard preferences --> Layouts --> Layout options --> Key(s) to change layout.
