Playback failure [solved]

I'm running F16 LXDE and have codecs installed, and have palyed DVDs with it before, but now it won't play DVDs or CDs. I get this error message:

Playback failure:
DVDRead could not open the disc "/dev/dvd".
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///dev/dvd'. Check the log for details.

Could be a different path to the dvd?

How do I correct this? I use VLC most of the time.

solved my own problem.

VLC was pointing to dvd and cdrom and both needed to be pointing to dvd1 and cdrom1. Now it plays.

How come VLC can't see the correct path? What causes it to change?

Yeah, I got caught with this also the other day. It's not a VLC issue. Somewhere along the line, the standard symbolic links "/dev/cdrom" and "/dev/dvd" which would point to /dev/sr0 got dropped and replaced with these:

lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 3 Apr 13 08:42 /dev/dvdrw1 -> sr0

I have no idea which "update" affected this change.
