Disable automatic updates on Fedora16

Hello everyone.

I run Fedora 16. I recently found that several packages have been updated automagically by the system.

367 Mar 20 18:55:44 Installed: 2:vim-X11-7.3.315-1.fc16.i686

I want this to happen only when I explicitly tell the system to do so. How do I disable automatic updates, please?

Thanks,
Arun

I found out later that this can be done through gpk-prefs .

Re: Disable automatic updates on Fedora16

Does anyone know how to disable this system wide, so when I add a new user I don't have to remember to run gpk-prefs on that user too.

I hate automatic updates they always f'up other software that I'm running.

Re: Disable automatic updates on Fedora16

Uninstall the software updater and use yumex for updating because yumex only runs when you tell it to.

Re: Disable automatic updates on Fedora16

What is the automatic updating package that can be uninstalled called? I've tried disabling it multiple ways, yet it still seems to find a way to update. It is almost like a virus.

Automatic updates have caused the system to be un-bootable multiple times. It seems to 'forget' to install the video drivers when it updates the kernel. I can't even believe automatic updates are enabled by default. Seems like something reserved for Windows. I'd venture a guess that most Linux users prefer a little more control over what software is being installed on their system.

Re: Disable automatic updates on Fedora16

I'm not sure exactly which one stopped the automatic updates but I removed
PackageKit-yum-plugin-0.6.21-2.fc16.x86_64 and then gnome-packagekit-3.2.1-1.fc16.x86_64

Problem with removing gnome-packagekit is it also removes gdm, but I just reinstalled gdm and
everything is working like I want it now.

Re: Disable automatic updates on Fedora16

rpm -e --nodeps PackageKit

Will remove packagekit but leave the dependencies intact.
