Re: rythmbox

Run it from a terminal and see if it shows the error when it crashes otherwise you can try reinstalling rhythmbox and see if that helps.

I am big fan of VLC http://www.videolan.org/

You can load VLC by adding RPM Fusion (free) to your repos. http://rpmfusion.org/

Re: rythmbox

You might have to delete the music database file for 'ali', located in /home/ali/.local/share/rhythmbox/rhythmdb.xml (you can make a backup of it, or rename it, if you'd prefer). Then, you'll likely have to re-import your music files into rhythmbox

Re: rythmbox

The crashes aren't a feature?
I still like it but now and then it is as stable as a house of cards.
You should clear its library and reset the settings (in particularly disable crossfading and plugins).

Re: rythmbox

Hi
I have been using Rhythmbox for years. Today I cannot get it to run at all. My version is Rhythmbox 2.90.1. Something serious has occurred with respect to this App. When it played on one of my machines it was choppy, on and off. Now I cannot even get it to start. I removed and reinstalled but no luck.
This behaviour essentially renders it unusable.

Hi seyd-ali
Under preferences there is a tab called Playback. Under that tab uncheck 'Crossfade', if it is checked. Have you removed the file as suggested by cazo above.
Also can you provide the version of the Kernel you are using and the version of rhythmbox as well. Version of rhythmbox is shown under the 'Help' tab under 'About'. The kernel version can be obtained by running the 'System Monitor' app and it is under the System Tab.
Hope this helps...

cazo already pushed you in the right direction, the rest can be done manually in the program itself.

But because I've got nothing to do today I automated it for you:
You need to be logged into the affected account!

Reset library:
PHP Code:
mv ~/.local/share/rhythmbox/rhythmdb.xml ~/.local/share/rhythmbox/rhythmdb.xml.old
Reset all Rhythmbox options:
PHP Code:
#!/bin/bash
# get rhythmbox schemas
gsettings list-recursively grep "org.gnome.rhythmbox" cut -d' ' -f1 uniq RHYTHMRESET1.TMP
# reset rhythmbox keys
while read line
do
gsettings reset-recursively "$line"
done RHYTHMRESET1.TMP
# clear rhythmbox2.tmp help file in the case it exists
RHYTHMRESET2.TMP
# get rhythmbox children
while read line
do
gsettings list-children "$linecut -d' ' -f4 >> RHYTHMRESET2.TMP
done
RHYTHMRESET1.TMP
# reset rhythmbox children keys
while read line
do
gsettings reset-recursively "$line"
done RHYTHMRESET2.TMP
# remove help files
rm RHYTHMRESET1.TMP
rm RHYTHMRESET2
.TMP
You can just copy & paste these commands in a terminal.
I made the reset script myself and tested it in a VM and it worked fine (probably not the most efficient commands but it gets the job done).
