Question How to make work 32bit app in 64bit install.img?

Hello
During installation of x86_64 RHEL I need to launch 32-bit utility to configure a disk array. So, I patched install.img in my RHEL: unpack install.img file, copy content of glibc.i686.rpm and libstdc++-4.4.6-3.el6.i686.rpm to it, pack it again, copy packed file back to installation DVD.
So, when I try to run the utility, I got an error:
/lib/ld-linux.so.2: bad ELF interpreter: No such file or directory

Is any way to launch my 32 bit utility in x86_64 install.img?

Do you have glibc-i686 installed? If not, install using yum. The said library will be provided by glibc.

Wouldn't it be easier to use a 32 bit live cd to configure the disk array and then use a 64 bit dvd later?

I already install glibc.i686. I need to copy correctly libs from glibc.i386 to my install.img

Re: How to make work 32bit app in 64bit install.img?

Q1: What 32bit app do you need for disk setup ?
Q1b: Is it in the repos (rpmfusion, epel, atrpms) ?
Q1c: Is it available as 64bit ?

It seems likely you are trying to do things the hard way - but maybe you have some custom 32bit app.

Given that you manually copied the libraries, you still need to run ldconfig afteradding entries to the /etc/ld.so.conf.d/ for the 32bit libraries.

This is why you should NOT "copy content of glibc.i686.rpm and libstdc++-4.4.6-3.el6.i686.rpm". Since a copy doesn't do the proper setup and doesn't get any dependencies. Instead you should load the 32bit rpms from the RHEL repo "yum install glibc.i686" or else you can do a "yum localinstall glibc.i686.rpm" (also for libstc++ if needed). Either is far better than manually futzing w/ the library configs.

You can test which libraries are needed for your 32bit app by running 'ldd' on the binary.

BTW George gave you good advice, assuming this is a one-time setup issue.

You can (probably) boot a 32bit live Linux CD and then run your 32bit app from the live-linux to configure the disk array. Then boot the disk again.

moved to Linux Chat (RHEL-related, not a Fedora-specific issue)

1) this app is a hp array configuration utility (hpacucli)
2) It isn't in repos, it is in www.hp.com website
3) So, I need to investigate this option
