Unhappy machine hangs when Wireless option is clicked

Hi Friends !

Before the update , i did not check whether wireless is working or not . I updated fedora and installed few softwares recently .

I just clicked wireless option under 'network icon' (i think so) at top-right corner , my laptop hangs . To recover from it , i turn off the laptop by pressing the power. I rarely use this but what do i do if i need it . Please help me to fix it ... Thanks ...

Please post the content of ~/.xsession-errors after it hangs and you restart the machine.

Re: machine hangs when Wireless option is clicked

Try as root :
Code:
cat /home/arif/.xsession-errors
and post results.
Something is messed up because your user should be able to access this file

Re: machine hangs when Wireless option is clicked

I must admit that I see nothing wrong in the log.
Is this the full log ?
Do You use the default gnome-shell theme or some other ?

I do not know what you are asking about !!!

i heard the term gnome , i installed gnome tweak tool when i came across an article about post installation of fedora.

if there is no problem in that log , what do i do now . Do i need to install drivers for wireles card ? is wireless-device driver available for linux ? its a broadcom device .

Re: machine hangs when Wireless option is clicked

There is no evidence this is an X11 problem. I think you've been on a wild goose chase.

When the system hangs, can you get to a virtual terminal ?
<ctrl+alt+f2> ?

There you should see a text login. You can login as root and examine the logs and system status - IF you can get there.

In any case, after reboot try to examine the system log files. You must be root to do this. Look at
/var/log/messages
/var/log/Xorg.0
/var/log/Xorg.0.log
Note the ystem time of the hang and then look for log messages around this time.

Re: machine hangs when Wireless option is clicked

Hi stevea !

Its nice to see your reply.

I could not get a virtual terminal yb pressing ctrl+alt+f2

I could not open messages file/folder

There was no file named Xorg.0 . But i copied contents of files such as Xorg.0.log .

There are more files starting with Xorg . If you need , i will copy them here for you.

i found Xorg.0.log file and attached it with this post . Please have look over this...
Attached Files
File Type: log Xorg.0.log (25.5 KB, 37 views)
