[Please Help] Fedora 16 wont boot up

so.. I left my laptop for a week at home, and my cousins have been playing around with it. i don't know what they actually did, everytime I ask them of what happen the last time they turn it on they only say we only used the firefox.

this is the problem.
it only go to the boot logo but still fully white. not turn the fedora logo.
and it says

Code:
RUN fsck MANUALLY.
 ...
......
......
and I run fsck but it only give me something like this..
Code:
util-linux 2.xxxx
I tried solution from this page:
Code:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=752966

he's using fedora 16 beta, but I thought it should work.

and still doesnt work.
I tried, there are many things shows up.

after it's finished. now it goes to the boot logo. but doesn't continue to the login screen.

it says:
Code:
plymouthd: could not start boot splash: No such file or directory.
never happened before, and I don't know how to fix it.

if you know how to solve this, please share.

Thank you..

Re: [Please Help] Fedora 16 wont boot up

Looks like your HDD is broken and you lost some files like the splash logo.

How old are your cousins? Ask them how often they dropped it ;-)

You should check your HDD with

Code:
smartctl -a /dev/sda
Unfortunately the smartmontools seem to be missing from the Fedora live CDs so you have to install them on an usb drive or use a different live CD like Clonezilla, GParted or Knoppix.

Yes, this looks like broken hardware.

Boot off a live CD/USB and check the SMART info as george_toolan suggests. Also, take the opportunity to copy any personal files to external storage if you haven't already got an up-to-date back-up. If it is a broken disk, it'll only get worse.
