Re: Old Ati driver

Hi,
I have tried to install the driver but I received the following error:

Removing temporary directory: fglrx-install.ZE6MZz

what is this?
Thanks,
bye bye

Re: Old Ati driver

no don't use the proprietary driver with this ancient graphic card ( mobility radeon 9600 is from 2002 or 2003). The newer versions of the proprietary AMD/ATI driver doesn't support it.

oh just clicked the link. This old catalyst driver (from 2009) even supports your graphic card, but it isn't compatible to Fedora releases newer than Fedora 11 or so.

The default driver which is installed by default is the best you can use with this ancient card. According to this feature matrix (your card is of the R300 generation) there should be basic 3D support as well.

Re: Old Ati driver

Interesting error message ;-)

According to the Description it should support X.Org up to 7.4 so why the heck is it now looking for XFree86[tm]?

Delete from your brain, all recollection of the pains and frustrations of using MSWONDOZE. This is Linux. The drivers are already installed and 99.999% probably already running perfectly.

That is a Radeon R300. 3d should be enabled out of the box. No driver change is required or possible. The ONLY drivers compatible with that card are already installed.

Post output of the command "glxinfo".
Also try running command "glxgears" and see if the gears turn smoothly and at what FPS.

Re: Old Ati driver

Congratulations!
You have hardware accelerated OpenGL 3D rendering, and spinning gears at 60fps (capped).

Code:
OpenGL vendor string: X.Org R300 Project
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on ATI RV350
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 7.11.2
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.20
Don't do anything at all with the drivers, you are 100% functional and running the latest and greatest drivers available for your card.
