Question do external HDDs work with linux?

I'm planning to buy one of these HDDs...

1) do they work with linux without compromising with any feature?
2) I've got USB 2.0 port on my laptop...will USB 3.0 supporting HDDs function well?

Sure they work with Linux ;-)

What "features" do you mean exactly?

USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0, so it should work flawlessly but not faster than about 30 MiB/sec.

Re: do external HDDs work with linux?

just a warning - if you use KDE and the 'device notifier' to try to automatically mount external (e.g. USB) volumes at boot time or when they are plugged in, you will be upset to learn that fixing this feature is continually deprecated in favor of adding new, impossibly slow full-text indexing or social media features.
