PAE --> x86_64 kernel

I want to try to install a 64 bit version of the kernel on my box, and it doesn;t find it.
Do I have to reinstall all packages as x86_64 if I can do the kernel?
I just went F14 --> F16 via preupgrade..

Suspect you tried to upgrade from FC 14 32 bit to FC 16 64bit ??? The only way to change architecture builds is a clean install.
