At a guess - and reading between the lines somewhat... I should imagine he wants fedora friendly tools to do the job...

@OP: Check this site - there are comprehensive tutorials on their forum for many models of phone and links to the linux tools necessary

Re: help me root my android

Hi, OP

this is not about "rooting", but if you want something new, try this

Inferno OS on Android phones.

cheer!

Re: help me root my android

Did you try doing a "hard reset" on the phone? Just make sure you do a contact, pictures, etc backup...

Yep, definitely would help to know what phone you have.
Also would like to suggest that if you live in EDMONTON or CALGARY, you can change phone service providers... windmobile.ca -- unlimited data = no charge for downloads

Re: help me root my android

maybe it's slightly off-topic, but if you are looking for a android based open source replacement: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyanogenmod

But it's a bit behind. Cynagenmod 9 will be based on Android 4.0. The stable 9 release of this is not released yet, only rc1.

Work on Android 4.0 is being dropped, it will never go stable. Changes between 4.0 and 4.1 are fairly minute, all work is being transitioned to 4.1 immediately.

I'm not sure how the carrier/service plan relates to your ability to use a VPN. VPN is configured at the phone level, Settings --> Networks --> VPN
