X-window black screen

Hi,
i'm troubleshooting X-widow startup problem. I'm booting my FC3 in runlevel3 and after executing X command, the X window manager starts but halt unexpectally on black sreen only with x mouse cursor. Can this be fixed, or where are the logs? Gnome boots OK. Also one stupid question> Why startx runs GDM not X window?

Try the logs in:
/var/log/Xorg.log
/var/log/gdm/:0.log
/var/log/messages

It sounds as if you are logging into the twm window manager. When you click on the desktop, does a menu appear? Go to terminal and use the switchdesk utility, such as switchdesk gnome, log out and log back in, and see if that does anything.

It's a utility used to switch between desktop environments/window managers. If you privide an argument, such as gnome or kde, it will change it to that. With no argument at all, it will bring up a gui for you to make a selection.
