having trouble dual-booting

ive been trying to get FC5 going on my machine for the past 5 hours with no luck. ive found a plethora of how-to's on dual booting but none of them helped. this is my situation

200gb Western Digital - NTFS (hda)
- c: 60gb
- d: 140gb
60gb Maxtor - NTFS

40gb Maxtor - FC5 is on this drive(hdd)

Now, ive installed Fc5 on hdd, and told the boot loader to install on the mbr of hda, but after installation the regular windows bootloader comes up. ive tried to edit the boot.ini file to point to the fc5 drive but thats no luck. how do i isntall grub over top of the windows boot loader?

edit: when i try to create a new bootloader using the fc5 dvd it keeps saying no packages selected bootloader cannot install, and then i have to reboot.

Hi:
boot from the FC5 disc and choose F5, type linux rescue and follow the instructions on the screens....then chroot /mnt/sysimage at the command prompt type grub-install --recheck /dev/hda enter..when it is complete, type exit enter, type exit enter and the system will reboot...reset your BIOS to boot from hda and you should be good to go.
Post back your results and if needed we will go from there.

hey Seve, Thanks so much, that worked. i dont know why grub installed improperly...but all is working now, im just booting into fc5 for the first time now.

i see ur from ontario canada, me too, im just west of toronto.
