Intuos5 still not detected F17
Originally posted this in the F17 developer forum. Nothings changed since F17 went live.
I have RPMfusion free and non-free. I have the xorg packges, I have libwacom up to date as well. In the latest libwacom it lists the intuos5 tablet as being available. Plug in tablet.. and nada. Any clues? Anyone else have an intuos5? what gives man?
Unrelated (or semi-related) ive been having glitches since adding the rpm free and non-free and the xorg and libwacom. (I added them all the day day so I cant narrow down which is causing it). When I go to software updates, it hangs for a long time, then tells me there is an update from a non-trusted source. If i cancel, it cancels all updates. Doesnt tel me WHICH update is "non-trusted". I assume its one of the three listed as it started the day I added those.
Maybe I should just do a fresh install of F17.. I got it during beta and have just been doing updates.

Re: Intuos5 still not detected F17
the latest libwacom does have support for the intuos5 in it, but it is not included in the 3.3 kernel. I don't think it was put into the kernel until 3.4
What you would need to do to get your tablet working is to build the wacom.ko kernel module yourself for the 3.3 kernel or compile a 3.4 kernel for F17.
I had some instructions around on here for building the wacom kernel module, but I seem to have lost the bookmarks to my thread on it.

Re: Intuos5 still not detected F17
yes.. That is one of them.. Thanks!
You would have to get the newer linuxwacom version than in that thread, but building it and the steps to copy the kernel module over should still be the same.

Re: Intuos5 still not detected F17
If you are still having an issue, try enabling the updates-testing repo in F17 and updating your kernel. There is now a 3.4 kernel for F17 in there. Or wait a few days, and it will probably be in the regular updates repo.

I thought f17 was supposed to be 3.4 by default? how else could the newest build of Gimp run on it if it wasnt?
I'm not advanced enough to build anything. but so far no updates have worked, and it doesnt even seem that Wacom has added a linux driver for this yet.

Re: Intuos5 still not detected F17
The kernel in F17 is now 3.4. At the time of the original post, it was using 3.3. Does your tablet work now?

That would be correct. Still tells me to "please plug in a tablet".
i have the x-org update. no official drivers installed from Wacom, but I assume the x-org update that included support for the intuos5 had the drivers. I could be wrong though. We all know what assuming does. (it encourages lame word-play!)

Re: Intuos5 still not detected F17
Does it recognize it when you boot your machine?
What does dmesg or lsusb tell you?
There is a difference in getting it to work with the rest of the system and getting it to work in Gnome. Gnome 3 uses it's own libwacom and libwacom-data package for it's wacom setup. If your tablet is seen by the system when you boot, but you can't configure it in Gnome, then it's a Gnome bug.

Sorry for the late reply, just got a new job (full time after a year of being unemployed and looking)
No it doesnt recognize. How would I add it? (bear in mind my experience with Linux is casual user, I know basic terminal stuff from 1 linux college class, so i know how to set/change permissions, naviate through the file system in terminal, and write very very basic files.)
Also I've been playing with Windows 8. As a Windows 7 user, I hated it. for 2 days. But as a Fedora/Gnome user i quickly adapted as it feels very familiar to my gnome experience.
