Install RPM from LIVE DVD

Hi,
I have downloaded Fedora Electronic Lab 16 and installed it but I did not like the gnome GUI.
So i installed KDE flavor of Fedora and very much in love with it.

I want to install Fedora Electronic Lab which I can do using Yum groupinstall 'Electronic Lab'
But it takes awful time to download all that.

So is it possible for me to extract RPM's from the live image of the FEL 16 DVD i have burnt and install the Electronic Lab group?

Thanking You

Hello gates2231,

To the best of knowledge, that is not possible from a livecd.

Re: Install RPM from LIVE DVD

If you had the full install DVD, you could treat it like a regular repo and install the rpm's from it, but I believe the rpms are stored differently on the LiveCD images, and can't be installed manually. It's been awhile since I have used a LiveCd image, so not completely certain about that.

I think on the LiveCD images, the entire system is stored as a image and copied over to your machine when you do the install, so I don't believe there are any rpm packages on it at all.

You can still repack a rpm on a running livecd if you can be bothered.
Code:
yum install rpmrebuild

Re: Install RPM from LIVE DVD

i looked in my own live cds of fedora 17 and i dont think you can install from it the rpm.
On the other hand you can download it only once :
1-change /etc/yum.conf to keep cache = 1
2-yum groupinstall .....
3-copy rpm(s) from /var/cache/yum to another location

or you can keep searching for a way , but i think if you install from livecd it will cause pakages to downgrade and cause compatabilty problems or cause crahes or slow pc but u can try any solution
