[SOLVED] Parallel Printing

Running Fedora 16 on an old Pentium 4 and it runs great. My only problem is parallel printing support.

My printer is an HP Laserjet 4050. When I run the Printers applet from System Settings, it doesn't see any printers even though mine is plugged into LPT1. I went into the CUPS administration page and set my printer up and I can print a test page. When I go to Google Docs or Calendar and try to print, the print job completes, but nothing actually prints.

This printer works great in Windows, Linux Mint, Ubuntu and PC-BSD.

Is there some way to get my Laserjet 4050 to print properly in Fedora 16?

Re: Parallel Printing

Ok, here's what I'm going to try:

1. Install a PDF reader since Google creates a PDF to print
2. Install Parport and HPLIP
3. Check startup modules to see if I need to add LPT printing support

Re: Parallel Printing

HP Laserjet 4050 runs fine here on F16 attached to the parallel port.

I did have to install HPLIP, but after that, all I did was add the printer into cups and it works great.

Did you set the 4050 to be the default printer? If not, your print jobs may be trying to go to another printer.

Re: Parallel Printing

I think so, but I'll check it when I get to work tomorrow. I don't know if it's a Google docs issue, a Chrome issue, a web issue. I'll figure it out eventually.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Parallel Printing

Set the printer to default in CUPS, changed various trays, made sure multiplexing is off. It will print a test page from CUPS but nothing else. Not even from Gedit. The print job completes, the printer shows "Processing Job" then nothing happens.
