Fedora freezes randomly - wierd - please help!

Hi,

I've installed FC5 on a P4 with 512 mb, it's running in runlevel 3 (although my problem still occurs if I switch to 5).

I have a problem in that every now and then - could be 30 mins to 7 hours the system slows down majorly. I can still ssh in and access the bash prompt, but running a top can take up to 5 minutes or more when it does run it works at full speed and subsequent runs of top can happen straight away or may take another 5 minutes.

It isn't only "top", it's just about every app.

The server also is slow to handle SMTP, POP and HTTP. I can reboot using the "reboot" command and the system will do it although it can take up to an hour to do so.

I've not installed anything outside the "extras" repo, I'm basically just running a mail and web server on it.

Below is a copy of my "top" screen when the server is running slow:

top - 22:41:04 up 3:53, 1 user, load average: 1.71, 0.59, 0.20
Tasks: 45 total, 2 running, 43 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie
