Is there something besides Gimp I could use?

I am sorry but I must be just plain stupid because I can't figure out how to do what I thought would be easy
simple things to do ... like drawing lines and arrows ... being able to select a color for bucket fill ... all with GIMP
without having to spend hours reading documentation about "layers" and Alpha channels.

Please tell me there is some easy to use drawing program out there ... I HATE GIMP!

Main Menu -> Add/Remove Software -> Applications -> Graphics -> Optional Packages

will present a list some other graphics programs avaliable. Perhaps one will suite your fancy?

Or you could use the gimp, and try stuff like merging layers or changing your mode to something simpler until that extra complexity goes away.

I don't know of any easier to use "high end" graphics tools but I'm sure there are some. Gimp is very good but it's definately not that user friendly.
I know, this is exactly what you didn't want! But it is a good tutorial for the Beginner | Intermediate | Expert | Photo Editing | Web | Script Authoring. http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/

An if it's just boxes, arrows and colourfill you want then there's the Draw part of OpenOffice.
