How to change the foot menu icon to mac icon/windows start button?
I would like to change the foot to the Mac logo in one user's theme and to a Windows Start button in another. Can I create a new Applications menu of my own some how and add it to the menu bar and take the existing menus off?

You can try changing the icon in the icon theme's folder. Icon themes are located in /usr/share/icons. I don't know exactly what size (or should it be in scalable) you have to change, but gnome menu icons seem to be in the places folder then.
The Windows start menu icon is wider as usual icons, but I am not into how to allow wider icon there.

I split you question from the thread you posted it as it is a new problem.

The attached shot may give you a clue depending on the theme you're using. You may also need to do it in more than the one size.
