i am a newbie too and I use Fedora Core 6. At the beginning Linux seems difficult, but as u continue you will see its easier. Give a look at Nickisgood1 or Foolish posts. It helps a lot...

I'm a noob. Sorry, too late for me to read the whole thread 8( . But Kplayer is working great for me. I screwed around with the codecs and etc that I have no idea what made it work. Mplayer and totem or whatever ... why not try yum'n kplayer. I'm positive you know something I don't. But, still Kplayer gets it done. (sorry if it has already been said)

ps Mplayer and etc.. still not working for me.
