replace gnome volume applet icon(s)?

Anyone know how to replace the icon(s) for the gnome volume applet? In FC5 it would change when I used the my favorite icon theme but in FC6 it does not, I have tried to find the locationof the default icons it uses but no matter which ones I replace its still the ugly default icon

TIA
